David Unnersjö, PhD
CTO & Co-founder

David is an engineer by training and has over the past ten years of academic work pioneered super-resolved imaging of the kidney. He showed the first ever optical visualization of podocyte foot processes and the slit diaphragm in 2016, and has since then published several papers in high impact journals which describe novel imaging and analysis protocols which have meant a leap forward in the field of kidney imaging.

In his role as CTO of Magnephy he is now using his broad knowledge in microscopy, image analysis and kidney biology/medicine to drive the technical development of next generation quantitative super-resolved kidney imaging. He additionally has an important role in advising and deciding on what combination of imaging protocols and analysis tools are best suited to meet the needs of our customers.

David received both his Bachelors’ and Masters’ degrees from The Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, Sweden, where he also pursued his PhD studies in the group of prof. Hjalmar Brismar. He then spent 2 years as a post doc in the group of prof. Thomas Benzing at one of the world’s biggest clinical kidney research centers, NEPHROLAB in Cologne, Germany. He is now a post doc and a junior group leader jointly at The University Hospital of Cologne, Germany & The Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm, Sweden. He is also affiliated researcher at Karolinska Institutet, Stockholm, Sweden.
